Amid tensions with China, Japan says America is committed to its defense

Japan’s new foreign minister, Yoshimasa Hayashi, said on Saturday that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken assured him in a phone call that the US’s commitment to protecting Japan, including the southern islands claimed by China, was unwavering.
